DURING the week, Mzimkhulu Matsaluka is the full-time caretaker of Walmer High School in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, where he can be seen opening doors and gates for the pupils and teachers at school.
But when weekends come and he goes to the mall or attends weddings, it seems everyone wants to treat him with the utmost respect.
All because the 64-year-old madala is the spitting image of ANC heavyweight, Secretary-General Gwede Mantashe!
The madala said even though he still carries physical scars from the days of apartheid, being seen by residents as Mantashe’s lookalike erases all his bad memories.
Mzimkhulu told Daily Sun with a big smile: “I have deep scars of revolution on my arms and body.
“I received them during the feud between the United Democratic Front and Azapo. I’m lucky to still be alive.
“I enjoy my life a lot because people at shopping malls, funerals and weddings think I’m Gwede Mantashe.
“At school I open gates for pupils, teachers and cars, but at these events I’m treated like a VIP.
“They call me SG and ushers guide me to the VIP area. When I try to explain to them that I am not Gwede, they don’t believe me.”
Andrew Dikana (39) said: “I first saw him over the Easter Weekend last year during our church service at Walmer High School. I thought that I was seeing the ANC’s Gwede Mantashe!”
