EFF Leader Julius Malema planned to visit King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo in prison in East London. But he found out that the King was admitted to hospital on Friday night.
Juju, accompanied by his executive including Dali Mpofu, Floyd Shivambu and Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, was greeted by about 200 EFF supporters at the gate of East London Maximum Security Prison.
"The king has been subjected to unfair treatment by a democratic state. We hold a view that whatever happened, he was exercising his rights as a traditional leader. We do respect the decisions of the courts though."
Juju added that Dalindyebo was a friend of the EFF and that they would continue to support him and give him courage. He then visited the King at St Dominic's Private hospital and later told media that the King had gone on a hunger strike and fell ill. "We spoke to the King and we agreed that he will start eating again."
It is not clear why Dalindyebo started the hunger strike and efforts by the SunTeam to get comment from correctional services drew a blank. "We've never seen such humiliation. We thought humiliation of traditional leaders ended with colonial times and the apartheid." "The king is in good spirits but it's painful to see what the ANC government is doing to this man."
Juju then took a swipe at President Jacob Zuma and deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa. "There are serious criminals like the one who heads the state and the one who killed 34 mineworkers in Marikana and is now deputy president. They are untouchable."
"This has been a miscarriage of justice. Undermining black nations and their tradition cannot be viewed as justice." When asked if his visit was not political, Juju dismissed that they were trying to score political points saying that they had always had a good relationship with Dalindyebo.
"We are politicians and therefore everything we do will be viewed with suspicion especially by our enemies but we don't care about them." Juju added that they had been asking legal minds about options available to the King such as house arrest. "It's a tricky situation this thing of finding a solution while justice must be served where wrong has been done."
Juju added that the King said he would not stop fighting an did not belong in jail."
Tomorrow the Abathembu nation will hold a meeting at Bumbane Great Place where the royal family is expected to announce who will become acting King
