DEATH seems to be following the EFF leadership in KZN, as yet another senior member has died.
The latest death comes just two weeks after the party buried its provincial deputy secretary, Xolile Mofokeng, in her home town of Glencoe.
Victor Vilakazi (32) – who served on the provincial command team – died on Thursday after a short illness.
He was admitted to Nkandla Hospital late last year and died there.
Before being hospitalised, he was living with his family at Osizweni near Newcastle, northern KZN.
National party spokesman Mbuyiseni Ndlozi described Vilakazi as a dedicated fighter.
He said the party was deeply saddened by his death and sent condolences to his family, friends and fellow fighters.
He called on EFF members, especially those in the Amajuba region, to support the family.
“As we mourn this loss, we as a movement know in our hearts that our generational mission must be accelerated so we are able to truly have economic freedom in our lifetime.
“Knowing his dedication to the cause, we as a movement vow to intensify the struggle, unite our forces and ensure victory is certain.”
The EFF’s provincial chairman, Vukani Ndlovu, said the party was disturbed by the deaths of two senior leaders in such a short space of time.
He said the party’s election campaign had been disturbed by the tragedies as it had already drawn its strategy and sent members to regions.
Ndlovu added that the funeral would be at Newcastle on Saturday and the EFF’s national leadership was expected to attend.
