Strawberry Quick (IS A DRUG) now hits our School Grounds


Meth is the commonly used short name for methamphetamine and it is a powerful stimulant. Meth is being produced illegally. Meth is an extremely dangerous and addictive drug which induces long lasting and debilitating effects.
Trending drug in schools affects lot of young lives. Strawberry quick or strawberry meth is a drug scare from 2007.
However this drug had been recently reported to have come back in the schools around South Africa.
Drug dealers were allegedly using colouring and flavouring to disguise methamphetamines strawberry quick, therefore making them more appeal to children.
This drug looks like the pop rocks candy that sizzle your mouth. In its current form, it is dark pink in colour and also smell like strawberries. It is said that it also comes in other flavours like chocolate, peanuts butter, cola, cherry, orange and grape.
It has been reported that this drug is being handed out to kids in school yards and kids are ingesting this thinking that it is candy.
Safety and Liaising (community team leader) under Kwadukuza police station Bongiwe told Spotlight Newspaper that they are aware of the drug “We are on a process to start with awareness programs as we have heard about this drug, we will make sure we let the learners know of this drug and also continue with our school search that we normally do in schools that are around us”
Children are ingesting this thinking it candy and being rushed off to hospital in dire conditions.
“I was not aware of this kind of drug, I will definitely make sure I let the parents, learners  to know and also make posters for awareness,” said Ms Vilakazi the Principal of Dinuphozo Primary School.
The society is urged to spread the word about this drug and make sure that the children know and not to take the candy even from their friends because it might be a drug.
