Country Bus travellers screamed for help in terror when a SNAKE peeped out of a suitcase for some fresh air!
According to a source who was aboard the 'chicken bus' (name supplied) a woman in her early 40s had with her, a black suitcase which she was constantly checking-probably concerned about the safety of her package.
Her antics bamboozled nearby passengers who were aboard the 70 seater bus. She would fervently zip and unzip the bag at regular intervals. While doing her routine checks, a snake reportedly reared its head sending the other passengers scurrying for cover despite the fact that the vehicle was in motion.
"She was seated at the back seat and I was two seats ahead of her. I heard people screaming about the snake when we were approaching St Luke's hospital. She told everyone to calm down and she disembarked when the bus stopped," said the source.
The screams could have upset the snake and she reckoned it was probably better for her to disembark rather than endanger the other passengers.
Reporters managed to track down the woman who identified herself as Norita Dube.
She confirmed the fiasco but claimed that she was simply a TRANSPORTER and was not aware of the contents of the 'parcel' she was supposed to deliver. She said she was travelling to Lupane on a 'mission' when the incident occurred.
"I didn't know that it was a snake. I was only sent to deliver the goods by Nyoni. He is in Johannesburg and he sent me to deliver the goods to his wife at Ndengwende Village," she said.
Efforts to get more details from her hit a brickwall.
It could not be established what kind of snake it was.
