KAIZER Chiefs have finally responded to allegations that Reneilwe “Yeye” Letsholonyane might be on his way out at Naturena.
According to a statement released by the club yesterday, Yeye is merely in the process of rehabilitation before getting back to action.
The 33-year-old veteran midfielder is believed to be in talks with Amakhosi about a contract extension, as his is set to lapse at the end of this season in June.
“We are in negotiations with Yeye,” Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung said in a statement yesterday amid media speculation. “We will make announcements on player movements in due course.”
Rumour had it that Yeye had signed a pre-contract with SuperSport United to link up with former mentor Stuart Baxter.
Yeye started experiencing pain in his knee about a month ago as Chiefs were preparing for the Caf Champions League match against Volcan Club de Moroni in the Comoros.
He’s on his way back to full fitness, according to Chiefs’ medical team: “We are taking it step-by-step to ensure he recovers completely. The duration of this rehabilitation process differs from one player to the next. The injury and its extent also have an impact on the time that a player is out.
“It’s important that a player recovers fully before playing again in a competitive match.”
