PALESA was disappointed when she arrived at her friend’s home to watch Generations: The Legacy on Saturday.
She found out that her friend’s plasma TV had been stolen on Thursday.
But when Palesa got home she was in for a big surprise. There was a knock on her door and there stood two young men, offering her a plasma for R350!
Palesa Mabato (36) from Orange Farm, south of Joburg, recognised the TV. It belonged to her friend Ntswaki Makgotla (38), who lives about 15 streets away.
She told the men to wait in her house while she went to borrow some money. Then she went outside and called the neighbours and Ntswaki.
“We cornered them. They tried to run away but couldn’t escape,” said Palesa.
“They said it was an old TV they no longer wanted, but I was sure it was my friend’s TV. Every Saturday we watch soapies on it.”
When Ntswaki arrived and confirmed it was her TV, the young men were given a beating until they confessed they had stolen it. They were then taken to the police station.
Ntswaki said she bought the TV last year for R7 000.
“I am shocked they wanted only R350 for it,” she said. “I’m pleased they tried to sell it to my friend, otherwise it would have been gone forever.”
Captain Johannes Motsiri said the two suspects were charged with housebreaking and are out on bail
