DURBAN was shaken yesterday at around 11am when the city experienced a 3.1 magnitude tremor.
Durban Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) spokesman Michael Rufus confirmed the tremor.
"We were on duty and around 11 this morning [yesterday] and our building [Dalbridge, Durban] started shaking and it lasted for plus minus six seconds. So far there are no injuries reported," said Rufus.
ER24 tweeted: "It is believed that a 3.1 magnitude tremor has hit the majority of the KZN region."
One of the biggest tremors to hit South Africa in recent times was a 5.4 magnitude one that shook the mining town of Orkney, North West, in 2014.
People in and around the city also took to Twitter to share their experiences of the tremor.
Leanne Pedro, who goes by the username @LeaPed, tweeted: "ER24EMS heavy tremor for about 10 secs here in Westville and then felt like a gentle vibration for a short while after."
Devan Padayachee @Oomadevan: "Felt tremor at Hillary. The awnings shook. Wife and daughter felt the floors shake."
@SallyAnnNell: "Yes I pooped myself I'm in Ashburton."
Some residents shared their experiences on Facebook.
Charles Sbonaldinho Zowndi wrote: "I felt it the house was vibrating and windows shaking at PMB. I thought it was a dump truck passing by but I realised it wasn't. It scared me for a few seconds."
Francois Koorts could not resist the opportunity to put a humorous spin on it. "Zuma dropped his wallet at the spaza shop at Nkandla."
