Died while saying her last prayer

EMILY Hlakotsa (54) was coming from church, singing “Re ago boka Morena” while the words from John 14:1 were ringing in her ears: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God, believe also in me.”
But then the kasi curse of the izinyoka took over.
Emily took one wrong step as she was walking home to her house in Zandspruit squatter camp, Honeydew, Gauteng on Sunday.
Her foot touched a live electricity cable and she fell to the ground with church members standing around her.
They were too scared to move her in case they got shocked as well.
When the paramedics arrived they tried to bring her round, but the mother of three children was dead.
Her bag with her Bible lay next to her body.
A church member said Emily was very happy that day.
“She died as she was singing and saying her last prayer,” she said.
Kenneth Lekalakala said Emily was electrocuted by a wire hidden on the ground.
“She stepped on top of it, unaware that it was live. We have a problem with izin-yoka killing people in the squatter camp. These wires carry danger,” he said.
He said he knew of at least 20 people who were electrocuted over the last year.
“Eskom comes all the time to remove the illegal cables. But it doesn’t take more than a day before the wires are back again, waiting for the next victim,” he said.
Emily’s family said they were shattered by her death and were not ready to speak to Daily Sun.
Yesterday they went to the spot where she fell to fetch her spirit.
An inquest docket was opened at Honeydew Police Station
