LATEST on 10 year old who killed his friend

COMMUNITY members are still in shock after a 12-year-old boy was shot dead on Friday afternoon.
The grade 5 pupil at Maniini Primary School was with school friends when the incident happened.
One of the boys, aged 10, allegedly told his friends he wanted to show them a firearm buried under a tree at his home in Maniini, outside Thohoyandou, Limpopo.
An 11-year-old, who was at the scene but cannot be named because he’s a minor, said: “Our friend wanted to use the toilet when out of nowhere, the other boy shot him. He was taken to hospital but later died.”
The victim’s 44-year-old dad said he was in town when he received a call to say his son was in hospital.
“The caller didn’t say what had happened but I found out when I got there. He had a wound to his head. The doctor told me to wait outside but after a few minutes, we were called back and told that my son had died,” said the dad.
“He was a bright boy and we were expecting good things from him.
“The worst thing is that I’m not working and I don’t know how we’re going to bury him.”
Thohoyandou police spokesman, Major Mashudu Malelo confirmed the incident. He said a 9mm gun was found hidden in a toilet.
“We arrested a 10-year-old boy and confiscated the firearm. We have opened a murder charge and detectives are still trying to determine who owns the gun.
“We have sent it for ballistic testing to see if the gun was used in other crimes,” he said
