RED BIRD Social Club members had been making sacrifices for months for Christmas.
But now they’re facing a bleak festive season!
The money they have been saving the whole year was stolen.
It was taken from the committee members who had gone to the bank on Friday.
They were robbed in a taxi.
Today the nine members still don’t know how the thugs knew where and how to get to them.
First four of the members went to Soshanguve Shopping Plaza in Tshwane to get the R16 000.
On their way home in the taxi a man wearing a cap was helping people get in and out.
But apparently he was a thug and started to communicate with someone on his cellphone.
He told the person where the taxi was and where it was heading.
After all the other people got out, he apparently started threatening them. A bakkie stopped and two armed men got out. They told the victims not to look at them and started beating them, demanding the cash.
After the robbery the police responded swiftly but the thugs were gone. All that was found was a baby’s carry bag. All nine members of the stokvel have nothing.
A case of armed robbery was opened at Rietgat Police Station.
