ACTRESS Lerato Mvelase is on the road to becoming a sangoma! The mother of two has been posting pictures of herself wearing her sangoma regalia on social media. The acclaimed actress previously came out and explained her surname change from Moloisane to Mvelase. Now she has honoured her calling from her ancestors. A well-informed source said Lerato is open-minded and has never shied away from embracing her culture. Said the source: “We’re Africans and ukuthwasa is part of our culture. If the calling is there, then we should honour it. Lerato is known for her acting skills. “She can still act and also do the work of the ancestors, as proven by today’s young breed of sangomas. “I think by posting pictures of herself she wanted to prove to people she can embrace her career and her calling, without fear or prejudice.” Last week, Lerato posted this message on a social network: The hardest months of my life. Emotionally, physically and spiritually. Away from my home, my kids, mymum! But I’m a soldier, a powerful spirit. I’m connected in the most amazing way to my God, uMveliqandi, Abathembu, my ancestors. I know who I truly am. I am stripped of worldly things I thought defined me, made me. My feet have touched the ground, got pricked, cut and scratched; but I walked on. No more body spray or perfume to turn heads as I pass because I smell good. Now I turn heads because I am being noticed for who I truly am. Lerato was romantically linked to actor and comedian Siyabonga Radebe, but lately there are claims they are no longer an item. Lerato is known for her role as Katlego in Home Affairs. Recently, she was part of the SABC2 thriller series Thola, which will be back for a second season in April 2016. When contacted for comment, Lerato asked the SunTeam to call later. She said: “Can we please sit for a proper interview? Otherwise, call me around lunchtime so I can give you comment.” But later her phone rang unanswered
