WHEN she walks around her neighbourhood, she can hear people gossiping about her huge belly. Some even ask her when she is due to deliver. But people don’t know how much pain that causes her . . . The woman from Pinetown wants her identity hidden. She claims a local hospital robbed her of her womanhood by cutting out her womb! “In 2012, I started suffering from unbearable lower abdominal pain,” the woman said. “One day, I visited a doctor who transferred me to a local hospital. “Hospital staff performed a scan and found I had fibroids (non-cancerous growths) in my womb. “Everything happened so quickly after that.” The woman was told an operation would be needed to remove the fibroids. She signed documents agreeing to the operation but after the procedure, she found that her womb had been removed. “I was angry and shocked,” she said. “I did not sign documents that stated my womb could be removed.” KZN department of health spokesman Agiza Hlongwane said the hospital contacted the patient so she could be examined by doctors. “The patient said she would only be able to see the doctor depending on her work schedule,” said Hlongwane. “The department encourages patients who have complaints to visit the hospital’s public relations officer or the CEO’s office for further assistance
