Their relationship started as that of landlord and tenant but it has now degenerated into a legal war following a business deal that went sour.
Kaya FM DJ Katlego Mabusela has run to the police and told them that his landlord, Tracy Bougardt, was refusing to give him back the R100000 he invested in a furniture business with her.
But Bougardt was having none of that, instead accusing Mabusela of, among other things, being an unruly tenant who broke the rules by inviting overnight guests and strange women into the home on a regular basis - on one occasion, two at the same time for threesome sex, it is alleged.
"When I asked him to please refrain, he said that it was every man's dream to have two women at the same time and I should let it go as it would not happen again," Bougardt said.
Mabusela, in his police statement, said his nightmare began in June when Bougardt approached him and told him that a luxurious furniture shop was closing down and goods were being sold at reduced prices.
"Tracy said she worked at the same furniture shop. She then told me that we can buy the furniture together at a reduced price and sell at a normal price ... [then] share the profits.
"We then had an agreement that I will deposit R100000 into her account. As per agreement, I was supposed to get R350000 after the projected profits from the sale of the items. The money was supposed to be paid on 22 June 2015," he wrote in the affidavit.
Mabusela said he had not received a cent from Bougardt.
In a written response to Sunday World, Bougardt said: "Katlego moved into my home. He came to learn that I was importing a large amount of furniture and fixtures from China. I offered him a share. He did pay for that share. Our business relationship was intact even when the deadlines for delivery were delayed. I contacted Katlego and explained what was happening and he said [I should] just keep him posted.
"The deadlines for delivery kept on being moved to later dates. As soon as I realised that these delays were going to cause havoc, I immediately offered Katlego a full refund, in writing. He said he would rather wait. There were further delays and again, on more than one occasion, I offered Katlego a refund. He continued to say he would rather wait, but that he was a bit broke and [asked if] could I perhaps loan him some money, which I did, several times.
"Thereafter began the harassment; Katlego would call me every day. Apparently he had borrowed the money to invest from someone else and that person was putting pressure on him. I told him that he should just take the refund and get himself out of the mess. He continued to say he would rather wait. But the calls continued."
Mabusela said parallel to the police case he opened, his lawyers had also prepared a letter of demand as part of a civil action against Bougardt but had not served her with the papers yet as they couldn't find her at her home.
"This lady took advantage of me at a time when I couldn't afford to lose the money. My mother is battling cancer and the medical expenses for that are astronomical. It is my responsibility to cover her costs."
Police spokesman Richard Munyai confirmed that a case of fraud was opened in Sandton and transferred to Rosebank, Joburg.
