INYOKA BEATEN TO DEATH

THE residents were growing frustrated over power cuts every week and suspected that izinyoka were the cause.
So when it happened again on Tuesday night, residents went to check and caught four men tampering with an electricity pole. Three escaped, but one of them wasn’t so lucky.
He was caught and beaten to death and his body was left on the bonnet of the izinyokas’ bakkie as a deadly warning to others. It happened in Maphephetheni, north of Durban.
A resident said the community had been experiencing blackouts every week for some time.
Then a massage was spread, that should the lights go off again people would go and check who was stealing electricity cables and wires.
“Early on Tuesday residents went out as agreed and caught four men red-handed,” said the resident.
The residents found electricity cables in the izinyokas’ bakkie.
Councillor Maxwell Mkhize said: “When I arrived at the scene I found the man’s body on the bonnet of a bakkie.”
He confirmed that the area had a problem with izinyoka, but he condemned the residents who had taken the law into their own hands.
Lieutenant Nqobile Gwala said Inanda cops were investigating a case of murder.
“The motive for the killing is unknown and no arrest has been made
