Employ us or there won’t be any clinic!

FURIOUS locals are threatening to disrupt the building of a clinic in their area.
“Employ us or there won’t be any clinic!” said the residents of KwaThema, Ekurhuleni.
The residents camped outside the Selope Thema Clinic yesterday, which is still under construction. They said they won’t let construction continue unless the municipality employed them.
EMPD cops were there to monitor the situation.
According to Clifford Shongwe, the EMPD spokesman, no casualties were reported.
According to Motobatse Mampuru, a community leader, the municipality has employed people who are not from extension 3, where the clinic is being built. “The councillor promised the community would be employed by means of a lucky draw. Community members were supposed to put copies of their IDs into a raffle box and the ones whose names were drawn out would get jobs,” he said. “But we are surprised to see people we don’t know working on the site.”
Community liaison officer Andile Nyawo said: “The municipality wanted skilled workers first before they could employ non-skilled workers.”
Councillor Johannes Bosakwe said: “I’ve never said those things. The claims are not true. We will have a meeting with the community to discuss these allegations.”
