WHILE some artists were wondering if they had a chance, Dumi Mkokstad was sure of himself.
He said he was confident that his hit song Safa Naye was going to win him the Best Song of the Year at the 8th Crown Gospel Music Awards.
The event was held at Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban on Sunday.
Dumi said the competition was between him and Thobekile Mkhwanazi.
The other gospel singers nominated for the category were Pastor Andile KaMajola and M Siya.
After scooping the award, Dumi called Thobekile on stage to comfort her for losing the biggest award.

“We are so happy and we don’t know what to say. But I think this award encourages us to do more for the poor using our I Believe Foundation,” said Bongi.
“We collect school uniforms for underprivileged children. We also receive support from other artists,” said Bongi. Other winners were Andile KaMajola, who won the Best Male Artist and the Best Gospel Artist.
“The Best Female award went to Lusanda Mcinga, Rebecca Malope won the Classic of All Time, the Best Newcomer prize went to Mahalia Buchanan and Traditional Gospel was scooped by Butho Vuthela
