Operating Division : Transnet NPA Position Title : Able Seafarer Employee Group : Permanent Department : F&B, Operations Deck, Shift C, MSB Location : Mossel Bay Reporting To : Master - Pilot & Workboat Grade Level : K2 Reference Number : 10154367 Position Purpose : Serve as a (rating) positioned in a capacity of AB (Deck or Engine) on a Tug, Launch, Pilot Boat, Work Boat or Floating Crane operating within the confines of the port operations area. Responsible for the safe and efficient handling and/or operation of ropes, wires, winches, capstans and other deck equipment during the shipping operations. Perform maintenance duties on the deck, accommodation, tank, void and engine room spaces of the crafts including general cleaning and housekeeping thereby ensuring a safe, reliable and professional delivery of marine fleet services to the client. Participate in Bridge and/or Engine Room Resources Management activities as and when required by the Master or Chief Marine Engineer Officers (CMEO), perform look-out duties on the bridge. Responsible for the efficient and economical use of paints, working tools and consumable stores. Safely operate all deck or engine lifting, towing, cleaning and pumping machinery as and when by the Master and/or Chief Marine Engineer Officer. external spaces, decks, superstructures, hull and/or engine room and workshop spaces; • Perform hygienic cleaning of all domestic areas including cabins, accommodation, heads and galley; • Participate in splicing of ropes and/or wires and making up of heaving lines as and when required; • Carry out and participate routine testing of deck and/or engine room equipment; • Participate in emergency drills and procedures in line with safety requirements and best practices; • Participate in berthing duties, moor/unmoor the craft alongside quays and rig gangways for safe access to the vessel; • Comply with all safe working instructions and procedures, report any non-conformances to the vessel officers (CMEO and/or Master); • Carry out reasonable instructions as directed by Master/CMEO as determined from time-to-time for the safe and efficient running of the vessel; • Store and secure all equipment in designated areas for safety of the vessel; • Dispose of waste in designated areas/bins; • Maintain the relevant personal qualifications and certificates of competencies in a valid mode and ensure records are kept safely and readily accessible for inspection when required; • Ensure the safety standards are followed thereby ensuring promotion of safety and wellbeing culture on-board the vessel; • Understand and ensure that all emergency signals are followed and act accordingly; • Perform fire and emergency patrols and report accordingly.

Qualifications & Experience : • Grade 10; • Certificate of Proficiency as Able Seafarer (Deck/Engine); • 12 months relevant experience in marine operations.
